Branch Out Media was established in 2007 as a catch all company for my freelance directing and editing work. In an often solitary occupation, it was a reminder to connect with people and embrace change.
Over 13 years working as a filmmaker I have built strong relationships with many clients and collaborators and have expanded the scope of Branch Out Media to provide a complete wrap-around production service.
I am dedicated to a lifetime of telling stories, yours and my own. I am always excited to work with new creative people and I look forward to meeting you.

Last year was a big opportunity to work on a big documentary directed by iconic kiwi filmmaker Roger Donaldson and it was tough! What started as a 5 week fill-in job, ended up as an entire year, working together with lead editor Tim Woodhouse, in one of the most rewarding creative collaborations I’ve had. Unfortunately my wife[…]
The BOM edit suite has had a revamp, rocking a new Mac Pro: 3.5GHz 6 Core Processor, 64Gb RAM, 2x 6Gb graphics cards and 512Gb SSD. This breaks out into my original iMac through Thunderbolt, providing a second display and peripherals: FW800, DVD burner, SD card reader. The project media runs off a 8Tb Thunderbolt G-Raid. Transcoding[…]
This was just a bit of fun with the family, a message to my grandparents on their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
I’m sitting waiting for my Quicktime reference file to export from Avid at 1am on a Saturday morning, and am remembering how much fun it is to finish a project. I have this feeling about twice a year and it really is something special. “Drug Court” is a Notable Pictures production and has taken 13[…]
Both “Red White Black & Blue” and “Lost & Found in China” have been selected to screen on Cathay Pacific flights starting this June. Here is the page from Cathay’s inflight magazine, about the films’ producer and ICEF rugby program founder Stuart Krohn.
We are returning from two weeks in the UK and France for the third instalment of the Red White Black & Blue series. It’s been the most powerful tour so far and will make a strong film. We really tried to include everyone’s voice in this film, and the students were so open about their[…]
This year’s big project has been the sequel (the second of a proposed Trilogy) to last year’s “Red White Black & Blue” which was produced by Cloud South Films. With “Lost & Found in China”, Branch Out Media teamed up with Stuart Krohn (the ICEF rugby program founder and Producer of both films) following the[…]
Without a doubt, this has been the biggest year of my life. The year began with a bang, with the first screening of my feature documentary directorial debut “Red White Black & Blue” on January 13th at the Idyllwild Cinema Fest in California. It won Best Documentary. All the hard work of the previous[…]
